It can be very challenging to look at the story of our lives and see some episodes over grown with sin. This is like a garden that is lacking care; a cared for garden always produces flowers, seed and fruit.
When we come from a negative viewpoint we internally criticize ourselves. We then blame ourselves we say things like ‘if only I could have more faith’ or ‘if only I spent more time in prayer’.
We need to get rid of the ‘if only’s and replace them with prayer.
I looked over my allotment in the spring and began to choose whether to work it or not. it was overgrown with weeds. I was saying to myself ‘if only I had worked harder last year’ then it wouldn’t be like this today.
I made the choice to work the ground. I started by making a raised bed and just kept going. I did a little every week. Some weeks it seemed as if things would never change.
Today I finished the second last raised bed. It looked really good. I was glad that I had got rid of my resistance to working the land. Next year it will take less work to produce more fruit. That is because I got rid of my ‘if only’.
Today I choose to get rid of my ‘if only’ from my walk with Jesus.
Today what will you be doing?
I hope you don’t end up saying at the end of the day ‘if only…..’
