There comes a time in our walk with Jesus when we have to turn over the old ground. That is to break up the old ground ready for planting. Many times when this happens we can be having a great time in our journey.
The reason for turning over the ground is to bring healing to hurting areas, or even our broken heart. If I suffer from rejection then I learn to live with it, I give it space in my life, living this way becomes normal. Jesus wants to deal with the wound that caused it.
Turning over the old ground reveals the wound that we have received. It is no longer hidden so the pain can be the same as the day we first received the wound.
The devil screams at us ‘I thought you had changed!!!’.
Having the hidden revealed can make us run for shelter, that is into our old protection mechanisms. It looks at this stage as if we have went backwards. The reality is that we are going forward with Jesus.
Jesus needs to uproot in order to heal. If we hand over our wound he is faithful and true to bring about our healing. That is to make us whole again.
Lord make me more willing to turn over the old ground to see what remains hidden.
Will you join me in uncovering your old wounds and let Jesus heal them?

Ground that is trampled on, but not turned over, becomes hard and even more difficult to plant seeds in that will give new life! (Gardening has taught me that lesson.) The same is true of our hearts: we need to let God turn over those hardened parts so that He can bring new life into our lives!

This year Im going to be more honest about the things that trouble me. I’m not going to go out of my way to hurt folk, but I am sick because of people -pleasing. It’s ok to be unhappy and sad, honesty is a challenge and if I’m going to have more joy I’ll probably experience some emotional pain. I’ll try and turn over the old ground.

Very interesting. I wrote a post last night before New Year’s day ended that I think closely parallels this.
Moving forward isn’t easy but the new growth is affected if old soil isn’t amended.

I think a lot of things we try to do by ourselves. There will be areas where we will fail, if we don’t ask for God to intervene. “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” (James 5:16) Jesus is merciful and I have no doubt that He will intervene in your life.
